Employment Edge is an intensive, new-graduate capacity development initiative. Focused on giving fresh Nigerian graduates the much needed adequate finishing, for a fiercely competitive job market. The curriculum includes 7weeks of intensive Foreign Languages, Entrepreneurship and Employment Etiquette Training -from a career capacity building perspective- and a Job fair.
Our goal is to help these fresh graduates get the requisite perspective and skills that actually matter in the market, and this at a very strategic time – just before the statutory National Youth Service- a period that would otherwise have been wasted.
The sessions run for 7 weeks. In this period, participants will have 120 contact hours with one of French, German or Portuguese. (120 hours is the internationally recommended statutory duration for language beginners to get a functional grasp of a new language with standard curricula.)
They will also have 60 contact hours with different human resource development personnel and recruiters from a varied range of industries. Handling specific, practical, no-holds-barred sessions on basic life and soft skills and employment etiquette. (Details attached).
The last 3 days of the 7 weeks features the Job Fair, with Human Resource Personnel and recruiters from a minimum of 10 multinationals.
The Job Fair is an added advantage in many ways; some participants will get hired off directly for full time jobs, internships or National Youth Service jobs. From a capacity development perspective, it will also expose them to real job interviews, which combined with all the training and mock sessions they have experienced during the programme is an unparalleled edge.
To further help participants achieve mastery of both the new languages learnt and work place life, we have negotiated 100 slots of unpaid job placements and internships with AISIEC Nigeria in Togo, Senegal, Cameroon and Benin Republic.
